3/2010***When planting those new purchases from the nursery/garden catalog, dig the hole, add amendments, then FILL THE HOLE WITH WATER once and let it drain out. Then install the plant and water again. That one step has saved many a seedling planted too far into the hotter months!




5/2010***  Plants in general do not like copper, so stay away from using uncoated copper wire to tie up plants, or shape your Bonsai tree branches, or attach ferns or airplants to a base. But this tendency can also be helpful. When I clean and fill a birdbath (even my painted cement leaves), I toss in a bright new penny. ~Doesn't have to be new, I just think it's prettier under the water (you may use an old one if you don't want it to show)!



The copper doesn't harm the birds, and discourages algae from growing in the basin.
